In my teaching I use both Eastern (Russian piano school) and Western methodologies. That is to say, I help my students develop their technique and artistry in a fun and creative way.
I set high expectations, both personally and for my students. I challenge them and encourage to go a little further, so they can discover their capabilities, their art and themselves. Then we celebrate their success.
During lessons strong emphasis is placed on a healthy technique and tone quality.
I carefully plan my lessons to cover:
~ music theory
~ improvisation
~ reading skills
~ ear training
~ rhythm development
No less important for young beginners are various games and exercises for developing hand-eye coordination, eye accommodation, and memory skills, which I include in my lessons.
I encourage my students to take the Royal Conservatory of Music exams, and to participate in festivals. However, taking an exam in order to be part of my studio is not mandatory. Some students choose to learn to play the piano just for fun and their own enjoyment.
